Education & Empowerment
Education is the first and most lasting direction toward change. YMWS schools and programs open doors for learning, confidence and opportunity.
Evening Schools
What began 45 years ago at St. Lawrence High School in Kolkata continues today through Diksha Evening School, where nearly 400 children learn every evening. Alongside lessons, a simple meal supports health and focus. Scholarships help promising students continue their studies.
Girl First Initiative
The Girl First Initiative ensures girls have equal access to education. Schools provide female teachers, separate toilets, safe environments, and advocacy against child marriage. About half of Khelaghar students are girls. These measures improve enrolment, retention, and learning outcomes. Campaigns and a documentary also raise awareness of the challenges girls face.
Trained Teachers
All teachers are trained and qualified largely from the local community, bringing warmth, consistency, and dedication to the classrooms. Many are former Khelaghar students who have returned to serve, helping keep attendance high and learning joyful.
Study Aid
Scholarships and academic support help children from low-income families stay in school. Fees, books, and essentials are covered so learning never stops because of circumstance.
