Voices That Strengthen Our Journey

Global leaders who stood with our mission and inspired our children to dream bigger.

Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was a steady guide to YMWS, visiting our institutions nine times and encouraging our work at every step. She blessed the landmark “Miles for Millions” walk on 26 February 1976, joining thousands from Golpark to the Maidan in a public call for awareness and action. In January 1990, she returned for the four-day “City of Joy” festival during Kolkata’s tercentenary, standing beside artists, leaders, and citizens in honour of a city known for resilience and compassion.

Revd. P. P. Van Lelyveld

Revd. Van Lelyveld shared a long and meaningful association with YMWS. His support helped build strong international partnerships that shaped many of our early initiatives.

Cardinal Picachy

Cardinal Picachy, former Archbishop of Calcutta, was a guiding presence for S. K. Mukerji and for YMWS. Elevated to the cardinalate in 1976, his wisdom and warmth strengthened the organisation’s values.

Father Andre Bruylants SJ

Father Bruylants SJ, former Headmaster of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, supported YMWS from its earliest days. A respected figure in education, he encouraged our efforts to build learning spaces rooted in care and purpose.
