“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.”
— Rabindranath Tagore
In South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, many families are held back by poverty, poor healthcare, and social barriers.
Young Men’s Welfare Society (YMWS) is a Kolkata-based organisation that has been working for the welfare and empowerment of underprivileged communities for over five decades. With a strong focus on education, health, child development, and community well-being, it strives to create lasting social change and improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations. Guided by an urgency rooted in hope, each initiative supports children, women, and families in building stability, dignity, and independence through education, health interventions, and community-driven action.
Empowerment Through Education
Education is the strongest and most lasting pathway to social change. Through its schools and education-focused programmes, opportunities are created for learning that builds knowledge, confidence, and hope. By nurturing children in safe and supportive environments, the foundation is laid for empowered individuals and stronger communities.
Health & Well-being
Healthy children learn better and live better. YMWS health programs nurture good habits, physical and mental strength.
Capacity Building
When young people grow in confidence, communities grow stronger. These programs nurture leadership, environmental care, and long-term well-being.
Community Building
Strong communities shape lasting change. YMWS supports women and families to move from dependence to self-reliance.
