“Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.”

— A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

Khelaghar means “playhouse”—a place where children feel safe, welcomed, and eager to learn. It is the name of four early-learning centres that nurture young minds through play, care, and curiosity, helping children build a strong foundation for life.

Khelaghar centres provide education to children aged 3+ to 14+ years across four rural blocks of West Bengal, with a strong emphasis on quality education, discipline, and holistic development.

The focus is simple yet powerful: safe and supportive spaces, compassionate teachers, and meaningful learning experiences that build confidence and prepare children for the future.

Bhagawatipur Khelaghar

Bhagawatipur Khelaghar is a trusted name in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The school attracts students from even a distance of 30 kms (near the Sunderbans) because of its high academic standard and beautiful campus.

The open space gives us scope to experiment with the curriculum. Thus, gardening, meditation, sports, reading story books, learning computers, watching educational film shows etc. are an integral part of the curriculum.

Absenteeism, both among students and teachers, is very low as is the incidence of dropouts. Parent-teacher meetings record 90% attendance.

The campus is also enjoyed by the students of the other two branches of Khelaghar during special events. Students from Young Horizons School and Children’s Foundation School visit Bhagawatipur Khelaghar for their yearly excursion. This gives them an opportunity to delve into rural lives and derive an understanding of what the rural children lack when compared to their lifestyle.

Joynagar Khelaghar

Joynagar Khelaghar narrates a similar story of surpassing the line of conservatism to reach a state of mutual acceptance. When asked what shaped their schooling choices for their children, the parents unanimously agreed that modern mainstream education was the single most important factor that could safeguard their children's future and clearly articulated a preference for sending their children to reputed private schools.

The school has a higher number of girl students compared to boys. The trust factor has increased in other ways too. Parents are more willing to send the students on excursions and are allowing them to participate in cultural programmes.

Raghunathpur Khelaghar

Raghunathpur Khelaghar has built its own history of promoting inter-religious bonding with the help of education. Our method of teaching has made the institution increasingly popular in the Muslim majority area for over two decades.

Chaudhury Chak Khelaghar

Started in 2022, the Chawdhury Chak centre of Young Men’s Welfare Society (YMWS) provides quality, child-friendly education to children from the local community, with a focus on strong foundational learning, care, and overall development.
